AI tools for Academics

AI is transforming the academic world at lightning speed: from data analysis to writing support, new tools are emerging every day. But with so many possibilities, it can still feel overwhelming to figure out where to begin. That’s why FYS teamed up again with The Struggling Scientists (Suzanne van Wouw & Jayron Habibe) to bring back the popular
“AI Tools in Academia” workshop.

After the enthusiastic response to our first edition, we expanded and updated the session to reflect the latest developments in AI and the way researchers are using these tools in their daily work.

In this interactive three-hour workshop, young researchers from across VU explored how to:

✨ Identify AI tools that genuinely support their research and teaching

✨ Boost productivity in tasks such as literature review, data handling, and writing

✨ Navigate the ethical and responsible use of AI in academia

Once again, the workshop was a great success and participants walked away with practical skills, new perspectives, and motivation to experiment with AI in their own academic journeys.
