The FYS aims to bring young scientists from the VU together. We provide a platform to give PhD-students and postdocs from the VU the opportunity to personally develop themselves on topics which are relevant to the challenges we encounter at the start of our career. We do this in the form of interactive workshops and social gatherings. Our events are organized at a regular basis and center around three core topics.

Soft skills development

Soft-skills are one of the most important skill employers ask for these days. Learn how to present and communicate your data, give effective feedback, manage your time and understand the dynamics within your team

Emotional well-being

A research working environment, especially as a PhD student, can be stressful and demanding. All researchers face setbacks. We think it is an important topic and we regularly host workshops that help in becoming more resilient

Career orientation

Preparing for the next step in your career also involves understand your qualifications and motivation. Learn how to recognize your transferable skills, build a network, approach job applications and write grants

The FYS is open to PhD-students and postdocs from all faculties of the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam.
